This unique fruit has flavors of maple syrup and butterscotch. The texture is something like a baked sweet potato, and can range from creamier to drier depending on the variety.
Overview
Lucuma is a highly prized subtropical fruit tree native to the Andean regions of South America and often referred to as the “Gold of the Incas.” It produces distinctive green fruit with vibrant golden flesh and a naturally sweet flavor commonly described as a blend of maple, caramel, and sweet potato. Its unique taste and excellent nutritional value have made lucuma a favorite in desserts and smoothies worldwide.
Fruit Characteristics
Lucuma fruit is round to oval with firm green skin and dense, bright yellow flesh when ripe. The flavor is rich and mildly sweet, making it ideal for fresh use once fully mature as well as for blending into smoothies, ice creams, and baked goods. The fruit is best harvested when mature and allowed to soften off the tree.
